Stephen Lenthall. Blog.

Things I've done, things I might do, things I should be doing. Y'know, a blog.

Cobwebs.

I learnt a little while ago that any blog or website that hasn’t been updated for 6 months is referred to as ‘cobwebbed’. And I’m guilty of it (along with the grammatical crime of starting a sentence with ‘and’). I have cunningly waited a whole year to start posting again in an attempt to make the dates look seamless!

So, updates on a few images from the last cobweb festooned year to follow shortly and a promise to regularly vacuum the harder to reach corners if this blog to keep it looking fresh……

New Statesman

Here’s a spread I shot last week for New Statesman (it’s about our shifting taste in food as highlighted by the ONS ‘basket of goods’). One of the quickest jobs I’ve turned around - discussing the composition with the Picture Editor (Rebecca McClelland) at 10 a.m, magazine rolling off the press that evening…..

Crackers.

I realise that christmas is but a tiny speck in the rear view mirror of the car journey that is 2012 (hey, I’m pictures, not copy!), but I couldn’t resist shooting these ‘treasures’ and sharing them with you. …and another book hits our dining table. Very exciting to receive the brand new Peepshow book. Feel free to judge the book by its cover, as I shot it (directed by Miles Donovan). I’ll put the trumpet away and urge you to delve inside and enjoy the wide world of Peepshow’s work both old and brand new. You can see inside the book and buy it just here.

This big book arrived a few weeks ago at our house. It currently resides on the dining table; coffee table it certainly isn’t in both size and content.
Inbetween the demands of work, small children and Danish dramas on BBC4, I’ve finally managed to work through the whole thing. It is an incredible document of a quite incredible designer. Very inspirational (I’ll be bold and say expect some Girard influenced work sometime soon), but slightly overwhelming - he’s just far too prolific to such a ridiculously high standard.
There are pages and pages on the meticulously neat, beautiful and organised Girard studio. Hmmmm…definitely something for me to aspire to there.
